Rolling Rally and Day of Action in Des Moines

Rolling Rally and Day of Action in Des Moines

Saturday, November 19, 2011 - 7:30pm

Times: 2:30 p.m. & 5 p.m.

Sties: First Federated Church, 4801 Franklin Avenue, DM and Iowa Event Center -730 3rd Street, DM

From Occupy Des Moines:

"On Saturday, November 19, Occupy Des Moines members will take the grievances of the 99 percent directly to top decision-makers in both political parties. First, we'll take action at a GOP presidential candidate forum. Second, we'll take action at a Democratic fundraiser where they are demanding between $100-$5,000 just to get inside the doors.

"We are the 99 percent, and we should not have to pay for access to political leaders and decision-makers. We want a more just and democratic society where people matter more, money matters less.

"Join us at 2:30pm outside the First Federated Church, 4801 Franklin Avenue, Des Moines as we take our demands directly to Republican presidential candidates like Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Michelle Bachmann, and more. Make no mistake: the GOP presidential candidates want to cut, de-regulate, and privatize our country back into the Stone Age - all in the name of protecting their corporate donors. We can't let them get away with it.

"Then, join us at 5pm at the Iowa Event Center -730 3rd Street, as we give a very special Occupy Des Moines welcome to corporate Democrat and Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel, who is giving the keynote address at the Democratic fundraiser. As President Obama's first chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel worked tirelessly to put the interests of his big money donors and giant Wall Street corporations ahead of everyday people and hardworking families. He marginalized the progressive caucus in the House, and lifted up the conservative Blue Dog caucus and helped kill real health-care reform in favor of a bill that puts insurance companies before patients. As Mayor of Chicago, he has arrested hundreds of Occupy Chicago members.

"It's time to put communities before corporations and people before profits. It's time to reclaim our democracy. Join us for this special "rolling rally" day of action!"
