Reconvening of healing justice visioning
AFSC's Healing Justice Program in Minnesota invites you to a “reconvening” of the visioning session held in January 2012. At this gathering, we will share with you how we have begun to utilize the wisdom and experience people brought to the January 2012 meeting, and we will continue to co-create a joint vision of a healthy Minnesota. Everyone who is interested in this topic is welcome to attend.
AFSC is extremely grateful for your help and support thus far. AFSC has hired a director for the Healing Justice Program; Ms Sharon Goens. Sharon, Alice Lynch, and Stephanie Autumn will co-facilitate this gathering.
This convening will include an open forum, review last year’s ideas and recommendations, provide an update on the work of the AFSC, strategize on how to work in partnership and prioritize next steps.
Healing justice encompasses both healing from harm and the transformation of harm to wholeness. Its focus is on achieving fundamental balance and fairness for all communities. The principles of healing justice are: responsibility, mutuality and love. Healing justice calls us to reject violence, domination and exploitation. In practice, healing justice means:
- Being able to care for yourself, your family and all your relations
- Repairing “harm” at all levels—personal, community, governmental, and international
- Having the power, right and mechanisms of self-determination
- Being able to lead your life “in a good way”
- Having the power and mechanisms to hold community and governmental entities to these same principles and actions when they cause harm
As we come together in April, please consider these questions: How can we build on what's already happening in Minnesota? What updates would you like to share with the group? How can we support each other? How can we work together to achieve a shared vision?
We would love to see you on Tuesday, April 23rd. We will provide refreshments at 5:30 pm and the group conversation will be from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. We will meet at the Minneapolis Urban League at 2100 Plymouth Ave. in North Minneapolis.
The event is free but pre-registration is required. Questions? Please contact Sharon Goens at SGoens@afsc.org or 651-789-3852.
