PINKWASHING & the erasure of Palestinian queer struggles

PINKWASHING & the erasure of Palestinian queer struggles

Thursday, May 8, 2014 - 8:30pm

Join us as DePaul professors Joy Ellison and Laila Farah discuss a phenomenon known as pinkwashing.

Classroom location in A&L TBD.

WHAT IS PINKWASHING?
Pinkwashing is a phenomenon in which Israel brands itself as a safe haven for the LGBTQ community in order to distract from its human rights violations. Professors Farah and Ellison will discuss the problems with this, how it tokenizes Palestinian queers, and ultimately results in the erasure of Palestinian queer communities and struggles that come from within the occupied territories.
