Join us to hear a presentation on the work of the Friends International Center and the American Friends Service Committee- from San Francisco to Gaza and Ramallah.

Kathy Bergen will highlight the work of the Friends International Center which provides a resource to the Ramallah community and current conditions facing Palestinians, including two issues of special concern: access and movement and land confiscation and house demolitions.

Friends International Center - Ramallah

Kathy Bergen is currently the Program Coordinator for the Friends International Center in Ramallah. For 12 years, Kathy was the National Coordinator of the Middle East Program of the Peacebuilding Unit in the national office of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) in Philadelphia. Prior to the AFSC, was the director the International Coordinating Committee on the Question of Palestine (ICCP). Kathy lived in Jerusalem from the time of the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 until after the Gulf War in 1991. Kathy and five others established the US Campaign to End Israeli Occupation, which now consists of more than 300 NGOs in the US working to change US policy towards in Palestine and Israel.

AFSC's Noura Khouri will speak briefly about AFSC work in Israel, Palestine and the Bay Area. She has served for two and a half years to support and bring together local community and faith groups doing Palestinian human rights work in the Bay Area.  In June, 2008 Noura worked with local faith leaders and held "Gaza hearings" to present rarely heard facts and testimony of Operation Cast Lead (see http://afsc.org/story/citizen-hearings-impact-us-weapons-civilians-gaza) which is available on DVD. She also worked in Occupied Palestine from 2005-2007 with Holy Land Trust, Al Haq and Badil Resource Center for Refugee and Residency Rights.

The event is a fundraiser for AFSC Middle East Peace program work in the Pacific Mountain Region including supporting Kathy Bergen's tour to our Region. If you are unable to attend and would like to donate directly, please send a donation earmarked "AFSC/Middle East" to AFSC, 65 Ninth St., San Francisco, CA  94103.  For more information contact: nkhouri@afsc.org or smcneil@afsc.org.
