Sunday, September 26, 2010 - 2:00pm

Join us for a free showing of the award-winning documentary “RETHINK Afghanistan” by award-winning filmmaker Robert Greenwald at 2 pm Sunday, September 26 ,2010, at the Veterans Room of the Oak Park Main Library, 834 Lake Street.

RETHINK Afghanistan focuses on the key issues surrounding this war. Diverse testimony, including a segment presenting many women of Afghanistan, covers both problems and solutions, while graphic footage of civilian casualties from U.S. air strikes illustrates why military force is ineffective at solving Afghanistan's many problems. Hear from veterans of the war as they testify to Congress about facts on the ground.

The film looks at how the war could further destabilize a nuclear-armed Pakistan, the staggering costs of the war, which could easily exceed $1 trillion, and the civilian casualties caused by recent U.S. airstrikes in Afghanistan.  It questions the assumption that war can liberate Afghan women.

The film brings you three former high-ranking CIA agents explaining why there is no "victory" to be won in Afghanistan.

The showing will be followed by a panel with Kathy Kelly of Voices for Creative Nonviolence and Eugene Cherry of Iraq Veterans Against the War, Q & A and open discussion.

Light refreshments are served.

Sponsored by the Oak Park Coalition for Truth and Justice and the Oak Park Public Library..
