Everyone Is Deserving

A Toolkit on TANF Reauthorization and Welfare Reform

Everyone is Deserving Cover

Here's a toolkit for groups working on welfare reauthorization, as well as for policymakers, journalists and anyone seeking to understand the impact of the 1996 welfare reform law or TANF. Congress must reauthorize TANF ("Temporary Assistance to Needy Families") by September 30, 2002. The materials assembled in the Toolkit will help you participate effectively in the process.

What you'll find in the publication:

  • Proposed changes to U.S. welfare policy that challenge people to address the structural causes of poverty and inequality;
  • Statements by AFSC and other faith groups that place welfare reform in a larger context of poverty and income inequality;
  • Fact sheets and articles noting welfare reform's impact on women of color, immigrants, and the "working poor;"
  • Six-page resources list to help users access studies, policy proposals, and national and grassroots organizations;
  • And much more!

Everyone is Deserving is available for $7 (5 copies for $30), postage included, from: AFSC Community Relations Unit, 1501 Cherry St., Philadelphia, PA 19102. For information, call or Email Kathryn Kurtz at (215) 241-7125; kkurtz@afsc.org.
