Peacebuilding Program, Chicago
See our recent activities >
The Chicago Peacebuilding Program works locally, statewide, and nationally to highlight the human and economic cost of war through exhibits, actions, and events.
Local
The Peacebuilding Program works in coalition with other area groups as part of the Anti-War Majority (www.anti-warmajority.org). The Anti-War Majority organizes events and actions to let our elected officials know that the majority of people are against the war and that the troops in need to come home now. We also promote non-violence education by offering trainings that look at the theory and practice of non-violence through historical and experiential examples.
Statewide
Eyes Wide Open: Illinois is an exhibit that features an empty pair of combat boots representing each Illinois casualty from the war in Iraq. The Peacebuilding Program works with local Friends Meetings, schools, peace and community groups to schedule the exhibit throughout Illinois.
National
The internationally acclaimed Eyes Wide Open Exhibit: The Human Cost of the Iraq War, premiered in Chicago's Federal Plaza in January, 2004 and has since traveled to over 75 cities around the country, coordinated by the Chicago Peacebuilding Program in collaboration with Regional and National AFSC offices. The success of this exhibit has led to several other initiatives coordinated by the Chicago Peacebuilding Program:
