Invitation - Creative Youth Social Change Projects 2014-15

Kansas City Area School and Youth Groups are Invited to take advantage of powerful opportunity for youth development and leadership

AFSC's Youth Civic Engagement work in Kansas City had a great year and we are looking for groups to collaborate with for programs for 2014-2015. Our goal is to provide creative ways for youth to learn about issues important to them and out community and to speak out for positive nonviolent social change!

Youth Civic Engagement Projects - 2014-15

Reverse the Power Festival - Youth Speak Out Video

Youth who participated in the 2014 Social Change Institute spoke out about the need for social change and what they learned in the training.

The Institute was organized by the Kansas City Program of the American Friends Service Committee and took place from June 9 through June 20. The Institute's goals were to empower youth, increase their knowledge and skills of nonviolent social change and deepen their commitments to work for a better community and world.

Kansas City youth change the world with spoken word poetry

American Friends Service Committee’s (AFSC) “If I Could Change the World” Spoken Word project is getting attention all over the Kansas City area. AFSC Program Coordinator Ira Harritt and Peace Interns Joshua Smith, Isabella Fassi, and Pearl Webb, carried out the project to encourage and engage young people in social action. The project was conducted in collaboration with The Writers Place and area spoken word artists.
