Defend the Dream Rally for Working People

Monday, April 4, 2011 - 5:30pm

On April 4,1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, where he was supporting sanitation workers demanding their dream: The right to bargain collectively for a voice at work and a better life.

Today, that same demand is electrifying people across America. It's the demand of all people—black, white, Latino and Asian American: The right to join together for our common dreams.

Rally to Save Iowa's Middle Class

Monday, March 7, 2011 - 5:00pm

The Iowa House of Representatives is holding a public hearing on House Study Bill (HSB) 117 on Monday March 7, 2011. This bill is the Wisconsin-style attack on the public sector bargaining laws in Iowa. We need to have members, allies and concerned Iowans turn out to support public workers.

Enough is enough. Governor Branstad and other lawmakers were elected to create good jobs that raise the bar for all workers, not attack Iowa’s working families with anti-worker legislation.

On Saturday at noon, their protest is going national. In cities across the nation, including every state capital, we'll come together to stand in solidarity with the people of Wisconsin.

Stop Right-to-Work FOR LESS

HB 474, relative to freedom of choice on whether to join a labor union, was approved in both House and Senate by wide margins, and was vetoed by Gov. Lynch.  This proposal is commonly named “Right To Work” and more accurately called “Right to Work for Less.”  It represents an attack on organized labor and does nothing to provide jobs.
