In December, nine more peace activists were subpoenaed by the FBI to appear before the grand jury. They are activists and ordinary people critical of war and concerned about Palestinian rights. To date 23 people have received subpoenas. Patrick Fitzgerald's office is ordering the nine to appear at a grand jury in Chicago on January 25th.
Join us at the Federal Plaza on January 14th to serve a subpoena to Attorney General Patrick Fitzgerald for his violations of our civil liberties. Fitzgerald is heading the current political witch hunt against antiwar activists, international solidarity activists, and the Arab and Muslim community. So far, over 23 people have been targeted, including members of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). These raids and subpoenas are an attack on the movements that speak out against war, occupation, and injustice.
In recent weeks, AFSC partners across the country have been the subjects of raids by the FBI, investigations by local police departments, and grand jury investigations. AFSC believes these raids are ominous portents of renewed stifling of domestic dissent, not effective law enforcement. They place a cloud over the public debate that is vital in a healthy democracy.
