As thousands protest the government's skewed priorities in the streets of New York and cities across the country, the twelve legislators on the "super committee" hold immense power over the US federal budget. They are preparing to make recommendations that could impact us all for many years to come.
These members are charged with finding $1.2 trillion to cut from the federal deficit over ten years. Their recommendations, to be completed by November 23, could affect every federal program: Social Security, Medicare, services that feed and house the poor, foreign aid, the military, tax policies, and more.
Please call your Senator or Representative October 4-5 and ask for a budget that reflects your values!

Talking Points:
* Make deep cuts in the Pentagon budget and bring war dollars home
* Raise revenues by raising taxes on corporations and the wealthiest
Americans as tax cuts and loopholes contribute greatly to the deficit
* Act to protect programs that serve vulnerable populations
* Promise to invest in job creation
AFSC is working with others in a grassroots effort to change what seem to be the priorities of the super committee with our Move the Money Action ToolKit.
There are tools to help you - and your community - to spell out the changes necessary to make the federal budget reflect our values.
Thank you for continuing to take action and we hope these tools help you to Wage Peace,
Peter Lems and Mary Zerkel
